Riley Gibson-Graf
My name is Riley Gibson-Graf and I am a photographer. The types of photography that I focus on are, long exposures, action, and landscape. I love taking photos because the camera gives you an opportunity to be creative and it forces you to look at things around you with a different perspective. I enjoy walking around seeing things that I think would look good in a photograph and then taking a photo of it. The main form of photography which I will be focusing on is long exposures, this is my favorite form of photography because it lets you think of what things could look like if they were exposed anywhere from two seconds to 5 hours. It also gives you a big chance to be creative, such as painting with light or other things besides lights.
The processes and techniques that I use make my concentration photography easier. Some things I use for long exposures might include a wide angle lens, my camera (of course), a tripod, a shutter release remote, a calculator with a time lapse program on it, a neutral density filter, and occasionally my 50mm f1.8. For taking long exposures I always make sure it’s a clear night or day and no wind. The things that I take into consideration when taking photos (in order of personal importance) focus, exposure, and the composition of the photo. Some of my favorite things to take long exposures of are the stars, the clouds and waterfalls or rivers. All these things provide an almost surreal look if done correctly.
What I see in my artwork is a sign for me to strive to do better. I am always thinking of new ideas I could incorporate into my photos to make them more aesthetically appealing. Other people really like my photos, I’ve posted them online and I always get good responses to them. For me, I’m never satisfied with any of my work, I always feel that I could have done better.
When I get older, I really hope to be a professional action photographer for mountain biking and other action sports, I also want to do the same with videography. My greatest influence in my photography is a Bay Area photographer by the name of Simon Christen, his work is absolutely amazing! I hope to someday be able to document moments in time as well as he does. The sky inspires me to capture the beauty of nature. In conclusion, I love taking photos and I will continue to do so and create new ways of pleasing the eye.
